Privacy Policy

The short version. Metonic keeps your information on your device and in your own Apple accounts. There is no Metonic server that stores your calendar. I don't sell your data, and I don't use it for advertising.

Calendar & reminders

With your permission, Metonic reads and writes the calendars and events already on your device through Apple's Calendar (EventKit) framework. That data stays in your own calendar accounts (such as iCloud or Google, as you've set them up in iOS/macOS). It is not transmitted to or stored by Metonic.

Location

With your permission, Metonic uses your device location (Apple's Core Location, at reduced accuracy) to show local daylight, sunrise and sunset, the moon, and weather for where you are. Your approximate location is also turned into a city name using Apple Maps, for display. If you don't grant location access, Metonic falls back to a default city and never accesses your location. Metonic does not store your location history or use it for anything beyond showing this on your timeline.

Weather

Weather is provided by Apple Weather (WeatherKit). To return a forecast, the coordinates for the location above are sent to Apple's weather service. Apple handles that request under its own privacy terms and does not use the location to identify you. Metonic uses no other weather provider.

Purchases

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Metonic does not receive or store your payment details. During the TestFlight beta, the free "grandfather" unlock is recorded as a small flag in your private iCloud key-value storage, tied to your Apple ID, so the unlock follows you to the App Store version. No email address or account is collected to do this.

Diagnostics & analytics

Metonic keeps a handful of anonymous counters for app lifecycle moments — for example, how often the welcome screen is shown, a permission is granted, the unlock screen is reached, or the unlock is claimed. These are plain numbers. They never contain your events, calendar names, location, or any identifier.

In the App Store version, these counters stay on your device (they reset if you reinstall) and are never transmitted. There is no third-party analytics or tracking.

In the TestFlight beta only, the same anonymous, aggregate counts are also sent to TelemetryDeck so I can see how well setup and the unlock are working during the beta. TelemetryDeck is privacy-focused and collects no personal data. The App Store release does not send this.

Data you share with others

Metonic does not sell your personal data. The only third parties involved are Apple (for weather requests and for processing purchases, under Apple's privacy policy) and, in the TestFlight beta only, TelemetryDeck for the anonymous counts described above.

Children

Metonic is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "last updated" date.
